Hi guys, I've recently reinstalled windows 7, installed perfectly fine etc. After playing about a bit, just before i went to bed, when i shut down the computer there was 200 updates ready to install. I left the computer be, returned to it the next day, when booting up it said configuring updates, after a while it said 'failure to configure updates, reverting changes' So i left it for a bit, nothing happened, so i hit the reset button on the PC (I know i shouldn't but i had no other choice). It booted back up ok, then after a few hours it did the same thing. Configuring updates, then reverting back etc and it crashed again so had to hit reset again. Booted back up ok now I'm trying to check for updates etc, but it constantly hangs on checking for updates. I have researched online and I've tried everything i can find, stopping and restarting services, tried the fix it solution in control panel, tried disk cleanup in safe mode, it's really starting to do my head in. I know after a while when i shut down it's going to have updates to install again, then it'll do the same when i restart it. Please help, it's doing my canister in.

Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)
I made the fateful error of upgrading with a clean install from Windows 7 HJome Premium to Windows 7 Professional. After much hunting to find the various drivers missing from WIndows, I was able to install a fuly operational Windows 7 Pro, but now I find that it will not update. I have spent hours reviewing and trying the many (often conflicting) 'fixes' found on the Internet, but none of them actually fix the problem. The failure of Windows 7 to update seems to be a very common problem, so I am puzzled as to why there is no proven straightforward remedy. It looks like I need to go back to Home Premium, but I thought I would try the forum before surrendering.
Sep 30, 2016 Can't get Windows 7 to search for updates or show what's available to download. Does this on new install after replacing hard drive. Have tried July rollup and it. Microsoft has finally issued a post Win 7 SP1 update rollup.
Go here for instructions.
It will make getting a clean install of Win 7 up to speed much quicker.
There are some telemetry updates included, see updates with an (*). Here is a list of the updates having Win 10 like telemetry if you want to remove those problematic updates post update installation:

I should have stated my problem more clearly. It is not that Windows will not install updates, but rather that it will not find any. It goes into the 'Checking for updates' mode, but just churns away and never finds any, even though this installation disk is a couple of years old and should need a ton of updates.

Thank you. Using the KB3083710 and KB3102810 workaround, everything went quickly and smoothly - at least it started quickly - the 180 updates took a while to download and install. I was unable to access the rollup, so I followed the normal update procedure. The important thing is that it worked, and Windows 7 Professional is up to date and running without a hitch.

The video is 11 minutes long, so it's not exactly a plug and play solution, but if you really like the Xbox One controller this will get it talking to your PC. Four months after the launch of the console, Microsoft still hasn't released a PC driver for the Xbox One controller. Someone else has finally done it for them. With a few caveats, YouTube user Lucas Assis has uploaded video instructions and a driver that will make your Xbox One controller work with your PC. Assis' solution uses a combination of a generic USB driver, controller emulating software vJoy, libusb (which allows applications to access USB devices), and his own application, which supports up to 16 (!) controllers.
