You can switch from Wi-Fi to cellular data or vice versa and try again. IPad or iPhone can't download apps over 100mb. Find out what to do when you can't download or install a game or an app on. If you see any alerts here, wait until the service is up and running and try again.
I've been to many corners of the internet trying to find a solution to this problem. I honestly didn't know it was a problem until today, as I have rarely used the Windows App Store. I went there to download the Nook app onto my Lenovo ideapad, running on Windows 8.1 Pro. I've come to find out that no matter what I try to download, I get the error message 'Something happened and your purchase couldn't be completed', even if it's a free app. I made sure my laptop clock/date is accurate, changed settings in Services (Windows Update), Firewall is set correctly, etc. What I refuse to do are things that will reset my system, alter the laptop's software or re-install Windows 8. My laptop didn't come with a disc for re-installing all the things that make my computer function. I bought it at BestBuy if you're wondering. I'm afraid my laptop won't be able to recover from a reset, unless someone has an idea that would prevent my essential programs from being deleted, especially since this is a minor issue of simply downloading an app. I don't think that warrants a complete system rest. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Potential fixes
Can't Download Apps Windows 10 Store
The first thing to try is to double tap the Home button and swipe up on any problem app that’s listed to close it. Now restart your device by holding down the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button until you see the Apple logo.
Try going to Settings > iTunes & App Store and turn Updates under Automatic Downloads Try updating manually, or restart your device and turn the automatic updates on again.
You could also go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings and see if that helps, you will have to re-enter passwords.
If that doesn’t work then try deleting any problem app from your device. Go to Settings > iTunes & App Store and tap your Apple ID then Sign Out. No hold down Home and Sleep/Wake to restart. Fire up the App Store, log in, and download the apps from scratch.
It could be that a specific app or game is causing the issue. Some people reported success after deleting the WSJ app. You could try removing apps one by one until you find the culprit or do a factory reset and selectively reinstall.
