Ubuntu 11.04 - the Natty Narwhal
A few weeks back I had my on board Realtek PCI express go out. I thought the onboard chip had fried so I installed another Ethernet card a ENLGA-1320 all was well until around 12:00pm today and then flop, no Internet connection from it either. So I started my decent into Google and finally got it working 5 hours later.
Here's what didn't work, but things you may try to get it up and working..for it seemed it was working for some just not for me.
A cold start which info was gathered from this thread on it. http://www.uluga.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1436667
Giving that forum credit by linking it, I will supply the info below:
Cold Start Instructions:
This didn't work for me, and if it did not for you lets continue on. This is another post located in the thread linked above, ones again I'll sum it up. Open a terminal and do the following.
Check the model number of your Ethernet controller:
cd to the directory you downloaded the realtek driver:
However I will still include the optional commands to test the driver.
Ok so if that worked for you cool, however for me I was ones again met with dismay and had to find another solution. This time around I'm desperate this is my development box, but also sort of mad and just going to do what it takes to get it up and running,
The link above is where most/parts of the following instructions came from, must give credit where credit is due.
that were provided by the link mentioned above. Set up manually the /etc/network/interfaces
in terminal type: gksu gedit /etc/network/interfaces I set up a static IP and even though All that was in the file was
needed to find the domain name servers(DNS). This is the function of the /etc/resolv.conf
file so you need to edit it. If the file doesn't exist, create it. In terminal:
cd to the directory you downloaded the realtek driver:
Ok at this point my pc fully black screened after resetting the network, it was on but no body was home. So I shut it down manually by holding the power button cut it back on and eth0 works perfect now, and that's the built in one that went out on the mother board first.
I am looking for drivers of PCI simple communications controller for the Presario CQ57 laptop.

What is that? And where do I find it?
I just bought a new Dell Vostro 5470 i5 Service Tag: <Admin Note: removed per privacy policy~RK> Express Service Code: <Admin Note: removed per privacy policy~RK> with Ubuntu only, I reformatted it and used my Windows 7 64bit OS. I downloaded all the drivers at Dell Product Support Website. Everything worked OK except that on my Device Manager, I am missing one driver, that is for PCI Simple Communications Controller, any link where I could download the driver?
I just rebuilt my HP ENVY 15-j145tx Notebook PC to Windows 8.1 Professional but under other Devices, I am having two problems. One is a 'PCI Simple COmmunications Controller' in error with the following descriptions:

And secondly it is showing one 'unknown device' under Other devices. Although I have checked the entire HP driver site dedicated for this laptop but I can't figure out what device drivers to install in order to resolve these issue.

I have tried few drivers and windows update but it doesn't seem to work for me.
Have done a clean install of VISTA HP. Keep being prompted to install driver for 'Mass storage controller'. Device manager shows it with yellow exclamation mark. Windows cannot locate a driver. Looked on the Acer site but unsure what to install for this one.
Device manager just calls it 'other device' Acer Aspire 9301awsmi.
I think i tried every driver listed here without any success.

I have had to downgrade a client's CQ58 notebook from Windows 8 64 to Windows 7 64 at their request. The process has gone quite well and I have managed to find all the necessary drivers - except one, the SM Bus Controller driver, which I am having trouble sourcing. I think this is part of the AMD Catalyst package and I have downloaded and installed the recommended package from AMD's auto-detect and this has not resolved the issue. I have also tried an slight earlier version of these drivers and this too has left me with the same problem. Is it going to seriously affect my clients notebook if I cannot find a suitable driver?

I've installed win 8.1x64 on my HP Probook 450 G2 but I am missing the PCI Data Acquisition and Signal Processing Controller driver.
I am using a notebook (proBook 4530s), with Windows 7, 64-bit, and in the device manager I get a yellow exclamation mark in Network controller even after downloading and installing the respective driver Atheros / Realtek Wireless LAN Driver(s). The driver packacge extracts itself and there is no confirmation of finishing the setup.
I have probook400 business series. On checking the device manager, I find 'unknown device', Which shows yellow mark (i.e. Not installed)..

I have a HP Pavilion dv7-6187cl Notebook and my Network Controller has seemed to quit working. I have tried numerous solutions and none of them have worked. I recently did a factory image restore on my PC, but before I did the most recent restore, I did the same thing and tried to update the driver and it worked like a charm. This time, its not so easy.

The Wifi on my a new ProBook won't turn on. Device Manager says that the device driver for Wifi won't load and may be missing or corrupted. It says the wireless device is an Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC3160 with Bluetooth combo device. The HP driver support page doesn't have a driver for this wireless device.
Specs: ProBook G1 450Windows 7 Professional 64-bitWireless device: Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC3160 with Bluetooth combo device
This is a new ProBook G1 450 which I am still doing basic setup on; I haven't even added my programs to it. I am setting up the preinstalled OS with the HP preinstalled programs. It does successfully connect to the internet via an ethernet cable, and I downloaded many Win 7 and HP updates that way. But it will not connect via a wireless network. It does not recognize that there are any Wifi signals in the area. My old Thinkpad and my tablet recognize a number of strong Wifs in the area, and connect easily to the one which I am authorized to use. The ProBook says there is no wireless in the area.
The ProBook's Wifi is apparently disabled. The wireless light is on (white), and when I click the appropriate icon, there is a message saying that Bluetooth is enabled, but Wifi is disabled. The light is supposed to turn on if either of Wifi or Bluetooth or both are turned on, so it is not a malfunction if it turns on when only one is enabled. But I have not tried Bluetooth yet.
Many other ProBook G1 450's apparently have a Ralink wireless device or certain other devices. Not mine. My ProBook apparently has an Intel Dual Bank Wireless-AC3160 with Bluetooth combo device. That's what Device Manager says. And this device might be excellent or perhaps even a nice improvement. However, unfortunately, Device Manager also says 'Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39).'
The HP support page for driver downloads for my ProBook does not have any driver for such an Intel wireless device. I didn't try the wireless until having installed many Win and HP updates. At the same time that I have noticed the wifi problem, I found that one HP update won't install: that was for Hotkey Support 5. Since then, I am having a little trouble with a couple of other updates. I mention this in case it is of some interest, but I don't see any connection between these updates and Wifi.
I have a ProBook 4535s. I just did a fresh Windows 7 install but I can’t get the USB controller and SM Bus controller drivers to work. I downloaded and installed them from the HP website, but they are still showing yellow in Device Manager.

The only thing Im missing to downgrade vista to xp is the sata controller I cant find it anywhere for the Extensa 4630Z.
I found Slipstream drivers but it was for downgrading a acer aspire laptop and they didnt work.
I checked intel's site for sata controller drivers they arent there.
When tried slipstream drivers I found filename called ' iaahci.inf ' I used nlite to intergrate them on cd im still getting a blue screen so they arent compatible.
Why doesnt acer's support site have these sata drivers?
