In preparation for the official release of General Admission, MGK released a 10-track mixtape, titled Fuck It, on July 23, 2015.[5] MGK had reportedly released the mixtape out of frustration, following Bad Boy delaying the release of General Admission several times. The mixtape is compiled of songs that were left off of General Admission, and was released to his fans as an apology for the delays.[5] MGK released the album artwork and revealed the release date on September 10, 2015, via Instagram. Many fans took it upon themselves to spray paint the album title around their hometowns to show their support and loyalty to MGK's EST movement.
The album's lead single, called 'Till I Die' was released on January 5, 2015 via YouTube, through MGK's Vevo account. The song was produced by MGK, alongside Casey McPerry and the production team J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League.[6] The song charted at number 86 on the US Billboard Hot 100, and number 32 on the Billboard'sHot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts. In June 2015, MGK released the single's sequel through WorldStarHipHop, featuring guest appearances from the Cleveland-based hip hop group Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, fellow rapper and Bad Boy artist French Montana, and rappers Yo Gotti and Real Kid, along with the accompanying music video.[7]
The album's second single, called 'A Little More' was released on March 30, 2015, through the same channels, with the accompanying music video releasing on May 18, 2015. The song features a guest appearance by American singer-songwriter Victoria Monet, with production provided by Tommy Brown.[8] 'A Little More' charted on the two respective charts, performing marginally worse at 108 and 35 respectively; however, the song did chart at number 81 on the Canadian Hot 100.

Chris Mench of XXL found the album a step up from his debut effort, saying that, 'General Admission has its low moments — the series of emotional, down-tempo songs is a bit repetitive by the end — but it feels much more cohesive than his last effort.'[12] David Jeffries of AllMusic stated that 'General Admission can be corrosive and coarse like Nirvana's In Utero, but while it lacks that album's artistic weight, it's proud to be unattractive which, oddly enough, becomes this druggy downer's allure.'[10] Marcus Dowling of HipHopDX called it 'a mixed-bag of an album that aims high and falls short, but an amazing story is told along the way.'[11]
General Admission debuted at number 4 on the Billboard 200, powered by first week sales of 56,000 equivalent album units; it sold 49,000 copies in its first week, with the remainder of its unit total reflecting the album's streaming activity and track sales.[13] The album also debuted at number one on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums.

Delivering lyrics with the speed of a bullet train, Cleveland rapper Machine Gun Kelly (aka MGK) experienced a meteoric rise in late 2011. Born Colson Baker in Texas but raised in the Cleveland suburb of Shaker Heights, MGK began making news in 2009 when he became the first rapper to win amateur night at Harlem's Apollo Theater. A series of mixtapes, including 100 Words and Running, Lace Up, and Rage Pack, came next; a 2011 performance at SXSW was followed immediately by a meeting with Sean Combs. Kelly signed with Comb's Bad Boy imprint that night and released the single 'Wild Boy' on the label that same year. The track featured special guest Waka Flocka Flame, and MGK's debut album, Lace Up, landed in 2012. During this time, he also signed a deal with Young & Restless to work on a clothing line. The Black Flag mixtape arrived in 2013, featuring appearances by French Montana, Pusha T, Meek Mill, Wiz Khalifa, and Sleeping with Sirens' Kellin Quinn. In 2015 he released his sophomore effort, General Admission, a dark, autobiographical LP released under the full name of Machine Gun Kelly. The album peaked at number four on the Billboard 200 and topped the R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. MGK released the 'Bad Things' single in 2016. The duet with ex-Fifth Harmony member Camila Cabello became the first Top Ten single for both artists. In 2017, MGK issued his third full-length, Bloom. In addition to 'Bad Things,' the effort included collaborations with Hailee Steinfeld ('At My Best'), Quavo and Ty Dolla $ign ('Trap Paris'), James Arthur ('Go for Broke'), and DubXX ('Moonwalkers'). Bloom debuted in the Top Ten of the Billboard 200, peaking at number three on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.
Following the success of the gold-certified third album, Bloom, he received an unexpected boost in 2018 from an unlikely source: major influence Eminem, who resurrected a 2012 beef stemming from off-hand comments about the Detroit emcee's daughter. On Eminem's Kamikaze attack 'Not Alike,' he lobbed a direct shot at MGK, who quickly responded with the biting diss track 'Rap Devil.' As tabloid headlines swirled, the latter song entered the U.S. R&B/Hip-Hop chart Top 10, jumping to number 13 on the Hot 100. Capitalizing on the surprise boost in exposure, MGK issued short album Binge, a dark, trap-influenced set that marked a return to form to focused flow and sly wordplay. Unencumbered by the star-studded distractions of the pop-friendly Bloom (rapper 24hrs is the only feature here), Binge debuted at number 24 on the Billboard 200, also charting in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. ~ Fred Thomas & Neil Z.
